Loch Rannoch – Round the Loch by E-Bike

A few hours.

Directions

The route

A quiet road runs right round Loch Rannoch, about 25 miles of it, and on a hired e-bike it makes a lovely morning out.

The south shore takes you past the old pines of the Black Wood to a sandy bay near the loch's west end, and the north shore brings you back for a pub lunch at the Loch Rannoch Hotel.

Rannoch

A morning in the saddle, a break on the sand, and lunch waiting where you hand the bikes back.

A morning, with a break at the bay

  1. Loch Rannoch

    Loch Rannoch

    An attraction

The Loch Rannoch Hotel, on the edge of Kinloch Rannoch, hires bikes through its Rannoch School of Adventure: an e-bike is £40 for four hours or £60 for eight, a mountain bike £25 or £40, and helmets come with them. The circuit is about 25 miles on quiet roads shared with cars. Taken clockwise, the south shore comes first, past the Black Wood of Rannoch, one of the last stands of the old Caledonian pine forest. Jess Mary's Bay, a sandy beach near the west end with a view east down the loch, is a good place for a break. The north shore road brings you back. Bring a flask and something to eat.

The Wild Brownie is the hotel's own pub, done out with a fishing theme, and serves lunch from noon (12.30pm on Sundays). Dogs are welcome inside and on the terrace, and the children's menu is served here.

On a wet day, the Wild Brownie is under cover.
