On Drummond Street, the main street of Comrie, a red-painted shopfront with Hansen's Kitchen lettered across the top has its windows painted with swirling leaves and its doorway stacked with crates of vegetables.

Inside is the village deli.

The long glass counter is full of cheeses, cold meats, salads and quiches, and the shelves run to the ceiling with oils, preserves, chutneys, wine and treats. Bread is baked every day, and at lunchtime the filled baguettes and rolls go out the door. Out the back, in a converted workshop, the coffee is roasted on site.

Hansen's opens from Monday to Saturday. It is the place to fill a picnic basket before a day in the hills and glens around Comrie, or to sit down with a coffee and a slice of something sweet while the village goes about its business outside.

A village deli selling a mouth-watering array of quality foods, whether you’re after ready meals, picnic provisions, baked goods or local beers and ciders – think anything from smoked cheddar scones to pickled samphire. It’s named after founder Iain Hansen, who set up shop in 2011.
