Ferryman's Cottage is a traditional stone cottage for four on the banks of Loch Hope, in the far north of Sutherland, with views over the water to the mountains.

It was built around 1830 as the home of the man who ran the Hope Ferry, and an armorial plaque is still set into one of its gables. Inside, it's lined in warm timber, with large canvases, unusual craft and copper touches. The kitchen is the heart of the house, with an Aga set into an old stone hearth and a long rustic table, and the living room has an open fire. Up in the eaves there's a double and a twin, and a bathroom with a deep copper tub for a long soak after a day on the hill. Swim in the loch, fish the burn with a ghillie, and bring the dog.

This is a place to feel the rhythms of nature and find a deep connection with a raw and unspoilt landscape.

Ferryman's Cottage stands at the north end of Loch Hope, on WildLand's Hope estate on Scotland's far north coast.

It sits in a secluded spot among greenery and heather on the banks of the loch, with Ben Hope across the water. Hope Lodge and The Clachan, the estate’s adventure hub with the gym, treatment rooms and adventure centre, are part of the same estate.
