John and Tommy Dewar built the distillery in 1896 to supply malt for their family's whisky.

The Aberfeldy distillery built by John Dewar's sons in 1896, the spiritual home of Dewar's whisky, with tours, tastings and a whisky lounge.
On the eastern edge of Aberfeldy, beside the Pitilie Burn, a long stone range with a pagoda roof is the Aberfeldy distillery, and a stack of casks by the gate spells out Home of Dewar's.
It was built in 1896 by John and Tommy Dewar, the sons of John Dewar, a Perth wine merchant whose whisky they had made famous around the world, and it began distilling in 1898 to make the malt at the heart of the family's whisky.
The Pitilie Burn still supplies its water. Tours lead through the working distillery, from the mash tuns and stills to warehouses lined with casks, and tastings range from a short sampling of drams to longer sessions and masterclasses. The whisky lounge has a bar and a cafe serving coffee and local food.
It is a working distillery, so opening times can change with the season, and tours are best booked ahead online.

John and Tommy Dewar built the distillery in 1896 to supply malt for their family's whisky.

The distillery still draws its water from the Pitilie Burn, which runs beside it.

Building began in 1896 and the first spirit ran two years later.
It was back in 1898 that the Dewar family established the distillery that would go on to produce what is today the best-selling Scotch in America. Today, a tour of its stills and warehouses gives a full sensory encounter – including, naturally, a tasting – with the single malt it’s famous for.
