On Dunkeld Street, the main road through Aberfeldy, a small cafe with a dark front and flower baskets at the door is one of the town's favourites.

The Tay is a cafe and takeaway of plain, good home cooking, the kind of place the locals go for lunch.

The menu runs from breakfasts and toasted paninis with a long list of fillings to bowls of Cullen skink, fish and chips, and home-made soups, with vegetarian and vegan dishes too. On the counter there are cakes and scones, baked in the kitchen, for anyone who only wants a cup of tea.

The Tay opens on weekdays, from the morning until mid-afternoon, and on Friday evenings it opens again for suppers. The town's square, the Watermill and the path up to the Birks are a few minutes' walk away.
