Once one of Scotland’s great medieval fortresses, the ruins of Caerlaverock Castle are still in excellent shape. A four-star Scottish Tourist Board attraction, the castle is surrounded by a moat and features a grand gatehouse and battlements – demonstrating the substantial power it wielded centuries ago.
