Welcome

The Rome family have farmed around Kilnford, on the edge of Dumfries, for over 300 years, and in 2011 Jock Rome turned the farm's derelict barns into a farm shop round a sandstone courtyard.

His Belted Galloway cattle and Blackface sheep graze the high ground at nearby Ingleston all year, and the beef is hung on site for three to four weeks before the butchers cut it to order. The counter also has bacon and ham cured in the shop, Kilnford haggis and homemade pies, with a deli of Scottish cheeses, local ales and gifts, from local pottery to mugs printed with the farm's Belties. The Farmhouse Kitchen Café cooks with what the shop sells, from a full Scottish breakfast to daily lunch specials, and opens onto a sun terrace and a play area among the trees. The Bothy does burgers to take away. Before you eat, walk the nature trail past the Galloways to the bird hide on the pond and the willow hedgehog in the secret garden.
