St Michael's Church, Dumfries
The old parish kirk of Dumfries, with a history of over 1,000 years, where Robert Burns lies buried in the churchyard.
St Michael's is the old burgh kirk of Dumfries, a red sandstone church whose spire rises above a crowded and atmospheric churchyard.
There has been a church here for well over a thousand years.
For visitors from around the world, the great draw is Robert Burns. The poet lies buried in the churchyard, in the white domed mausoleum that stands among the old gravestones and monuments.
The churchyard can be visited at any time, and the church holds ticketed tours and special events through the year, as well as a Sunday service at quarter past eleven with a warm welcome for visitors. There is free parking nearby at Brooms Road and the Whitesands, and disabled access to the churchyard is at the back, by Barnslaps. Robert Burns House, where the poet spent his last years, is also in the town.

The churchyard is open at all times; tours of the church are ticketed, and there is a Sunday service at 11.15am.
