Dumfries and Galloway

Gracefield Arts Centre

Dumfries' own gallery, and the region's collection of Scottish painting.

Call
Welcome

Gracefield is the gallery Dumfries keeps for itself.

It sits in a Victorian villa and a long low modern wing on Edinburgh Road, a few minutes out from the centre, and it runs a changing programme of exhibitions alongside studios, a workshop and a cafe. The part worth planning around is the collection: the region holds several hundred works of Scottish art here, and shows them in rotation rather than all at once, so what is on the walls this month will not be what was on them last. There is no charge. The town keeps a public collection of paintings and hangs it well, and that is the reason to come rather than the cafe.
