Robert Burns Centre

A free museum of Burns's last years in an 18th-century watermill on the River Nith in Dumfries, with a model of the town in the 1790s.

Welcome

On the west bank of the River Nith in Dumfries, an old stone watermill of the eighteenth century is home to the Robert Burns Centre, which tells the story of the poet's last years in the town.

The highlight is a large model of Dumfries as it was in the 1790s, when Burns lived and worked here, and around it are artefacts of national importance, films and an audio station where you can listen to performances of his songs and poems. Children have a Robert Burns Lego trail, word games and colouring to keep them busy.

Entry is free. The centre is open all year: every day from April to September, with shorter hours on Sundays, and Tuesday to Saturday from October to March. It is fully accessible, with a stair lift to the upper floor. Burns's house and his favourite inn are both across the river in the town.
