Beinn a' Ghlo - Carn Liath

A Munro of 976 metres, the southern summit of Beinn a' Ghlò above Blair Atholl, climbed from the car park at Loch Moraig.

Welcome

Carn Liath, 976 metres, is one of the three Munro summits of Beinn a' Ghlò, near Blair Atholl on the southern edge of the Cairngorms National Park.

It is not the Carn Liath above Loch Laggan. For years its path was a scar plain to see from the A9. In 2019 it was repaired with 900 metres of stone pitching, and in 2023 a car park opened at its start, by Loch Moraig.

The hill is a Site of Special Scientific Interest, a Special Area of Conservation and a Special Protection Area, and stags are stalked here from August to 20 October. No avalanche forecast covers Beinn a' Ghlò, and under snow that does not mean there is no risk. Choose a day with a good forecast, and carry a map, a compass and warm clothes.
