Places to Stay on the Shore of a Loch

Waking up to a loch outside the window, with the water still and the hills behind it, is one of those things that makes a stay in Scotland feel different. These are our favourite places to stay on the shore.

Updated 22 September 2026.

There's nothing quite like a loch outside the window. The water changes colour with the sky, the hills sit upside down in it on a still morning, and on a clear night the stars come out twice. Whether it's a cabin with the water at the end of the garden or a big house with its own jetty, a lochside stay is Scotland at its most peaceful.

We've picked out our favourite places to stay on the shore of a loch, from cosy cabins for two to houses for the whole family.
