Welcome

There's something about a big Victorian estate where nobody is in a hurry, and Vogrie Country Park, in the Midlothian countryside twelve miles from Edinburgh, makes a lovely day out.

Vogrie House, a baronial mansion built in 1876, stands at the end of a sweeping drive, and the parkland round it was planted with trees from all over the world, among them western red cedar and sequoia. It became Scotland's second country park in 1982. Eleven and a half miles of signed paths wander through woodland and meadow and down into the valley of the River Tyne, with easy level paths near the house. Children will love the miniature railway, though the play park is closed for rebuilding until January 2027. There's a café inside Vogrie House, and dogs are welcome. The park opens every day from 7.30am, and parking is £3 a car.
