The Captain Darling
A brasserie-style bar and restaurant on Hamilton Place in Stockbridge, with an all-day menu, meats cooked over coals and Sunday roasts.
The Captain Darling is a brasserie-style bar and restaurant on Hamilton Place in Stockbridge, a short and scenic walk from the centre of town.
Pop in for a pint, a cocktail or a coffee in the window, or head through to the separate dining room for the all-day menu, created with the Edinburgh chef Scott Smith. It's classic, well-made cooking full of flavour, with prawn cocktail and haggis croquettes to start, handmade pies like beef shin and Guinness, and steaks and chicken cooked over coals. Sunday is the day to come, for roasts with all the trimmings, from rare breed pork porchetta to dry-aged sirloin of beef, and there's a smaller Sunday roast for children. On weekdays a set lunch makes an easy midday stop. The Captain Darling is open every day from noon until 11pm, and you can book a table through its own website.
