Sotto is an Italian wine bar and trattoria on Deanhaugh Street in Stockbridge, behind a coral-pink shopfront with green awnings, and it's just as good for a quick glass as for a long dinner.

The list runs to more than 200 Italian wines, and the food is relaxed Italian cooking, from focaccia, salumi and fried stuffed olives to pasta and fish, with a chef's selection of five sharing courses in the evening. There's a good-value set lunch from Wednesday to Friday too. The full menu is served in the bar as well as the trattoria, and the communal bar table is kept for walk-ins, so you can wander in on a whim. It's in the Michelin Guide. Sotto is open from Wednesday to Sunday from midday, with food at lunch and dinner and right through Sunday afternoon. For a table, book ahead and mention any allergies when you do.
