On the Waternish peninsula, on the way to Stein, a larch-clad studio looks out over Loch Bay towards the Outer Hebrides.

This is Skíō Pottery, where Kayti Peschke and Luke Seaton throw small batches of stoneware for the table and the home: mugs, bowls, vases and espresso cups, many left partly raw so you can feel the clay in your hand.

Their colours come from the island around them, the greys and browns of rock and weather, and Luke's pieces lean towards clean, brutalist lines. Their work is made for everyday use, meant to be picked up and used rather than kept on a shelf, and it is easy to call in whenever you pass along the peninsula road. To see them at the wheel, get in touch first, then pair the visit with a drink at the Stein Inn, just along the road.

Kayti Peschke and Luke Seaton made an offer on the house after a virtual viewing, and only saw it in person months later. They moved 440 miles from York in early 2023.

Weeks after they arrived, they booked the Three Chimneys for Luke's 40th. A year later their plates were on the tables there, at Colbost, and at the Three Chimneys at Talisker too.

Hooked in two hours.

Kayti took her mum to a pottery workshop for Mother's Day, and by the end of the two hours she was hooked. Plant pots soon filled the house.

Some of their coffee tumblers are finished with a blowtorch, giving them a texture like the basalt rock of Skye.
