Waternish Point
The remote northern tip of the Waternish peninsula, with a small lighthouse, whales offshore and a walk from Trumpan.
Waternish Point is the far northern tip of the Waternish peninsula in north-west Skye, a remote headland with a small white lighthouse and wide views over the sea.
It is one of the best places on the island to watch for whales and dolphins, and porpoises and seals are often seen too.
The walk starts at the car park by Trumpan Church and follows a track north up the western side of the peninsula, boggy in places, past a cairn to Roderick MacLeod of Unish, said to have fallen in the battle here about 1530, and close to the Iron Age broch of Dun Borrafiach, to the ruins of Unish House. From there the last stretch to the point crosses pathless but fairly dry ground. It is about thirteen and a half kilometres there and back, three to four hours. The track crosses croft land, and the crofter asks that dogs be kept on a lead.

Start at the car park by Trumpan Church; there is no public transport.
The walk is 13.5 km there and back with 389 m of ascent, three to four hours. The track is very boggy in places. Keep dogs on a lead across the croft land.
