Rum is not what Dumfriesshire is for, which is rather the point.

Ninefold works out of a stone steading at Dormont Farm near Dalton, and it is the south of Scotland's first and only rum distillery - not a gin still that also does rum, but a distillery making rum from sugar cane molasses as its whole business. There is an unaged rum, a spiced one, and casks laid down to age. The scale of it is the appeal: one copper still in a room in a farm building, a few miles of back road from Lockerbie, in a county that has nothing else like it. Tours, tastings and cocktails all happen, but they are arranged in advance with the owner rather than dropped in on, which is what you would expect of a distillery this size.
