Inside The Gate Lodge.

The Gate Lodge stands at the gate of Kingairloch House, on the Morvern side of Loch Linnhe, and it’s built of cut granite. It sits at the head of Loch a’ Choire, and the estate counts its view among the finest it has: Castle Stalker, the Argyllshire hills and the glens and hills of Kingairloch can all be seen from it, and from the windows you look out across a field to the water.

The curved cabin with its dragonfly windows became one of the most wish-listed holiday lets in the UK. Savills is selling it with the PilotHouse, the Captain's Cabin and the owner's house on four acres.

One dog is welcome, with a dog wash, bowls and towels waiting

Borradill Cottage is a timber cabin for two to four in 25 acres of woodland at Glenborrodale, on the Ardnamurchan peninsula. With ponds, streams and rock faces all around it, otters, frogs, herons and owls come by, and in the evening there's a fire pit looking over the loch and a log fire inside.

Pine martens are regular visitors at The Old Post Office, a stone cottage for two on the Kingairloch Estate near Ardgour.

The Old Post Office is one of the old cottages on the Kingairloch Estate, near Ardgour. When the estate restored its cottages, each was done in a slightly different way, but the central stone walls were kept, built of stone likely quarried at the estate's own Pier Quarry. Today it is a lochside cottage for two, all on one level, with a glazed front from the lounge onto the patio. That makes the lounge a good place to sit and watch, because the estate says pine martens are regular visitors, and red deer and plenty of birds are about too.
