Welcome

On St Mary Street in the harbour town of Kirkcudbright, behind a white shopfront beneath an old stone house, Jake Irving sells the pottery he makes.

The shop is bright and simple, with white shelves and a ladder display filled with pieces in the blues and greens of the sea, under an anchor painted on the wall.

Among the favourites are his little animal figures, dogs, cats, pigs and elephants, each modelled by hand in red earthenware and glazed in dark blue, green or spotted yellow and brown, so that no two are quite alike. They cost twenty-eight pounds, and the pottery can also be bought online.

The shop opens from Monday to Saturday, from half past nine until half past four.
