On St Mary Street in Kirkcudbright, behind a white front with a striped awning, Pleat is an independent boutique of women's clothing and jewellery, run by Sunny Rathore.
The rails are full of fashion-forward pieces, bold prints, wide trousers and flowing dresses, including a good range in larger sizes, alongside unusual fair-trade clothes and pieces made from antique textiles. There is jewellery to go with them, and pre-loved clothes and sales too. Shoppers have called it the best clothing shop in the region, one that would hold its own in a big city without the big-city prices.
Pleat opens on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, from eleven until four, and is closed on the other days, so plan your visit around them. Kirkcudbright's galleries and potteries are all within a short walk.
