Kirkcudbright Art Tours
A walk round the artists' town with somebody who knows whose door is whose.
Kirkcudbright is best seen with someone who knows it.
Half of what makes it interesting is invisible from the pavement: which door was Jessie M King's, which studio Hornel worked in, which unremarkable terrace housed half a generation of Scottish painting. The tours walk you round it - the houses, the studios, the mosaic plaque on the green front of Greengate that records that E A Taylor and Jessie M King lived and worked in that house - and put the paintings you have seen in the galleries back in the streets they were made in. They are booked in advance rather than turned up for, and they run to the people on them: an hour to two and a half on foot, at the pace of whoever came.
