Threave Castle

This is a really fun castle to visit. Why not make a day of it. Start at the Threave Gardens and Estate and buy your tickets for the castle while enjoying all the wonderful nature that the Estate has to offer. The castle is actually on a little island on the River Dee. To access it follow the signs from the Kelton Mains Farm on a ten minute delightful walk to a jetty where you ring a bell and the boatman will come across from the island to pick you up. The castle is maintained by Historic Scotland and there is lots of interesting history to learn on your trip about this 14th Century Tower House Castle.
