Step down from the bridge by the subway station and you find an independent craft beer bar under vaulted brick ceilings, and one of the best places in the West End for a drink by the water.

There are thirty-three taps, rotating all the time, from local brewers and further afield, with plenty that is low or free of alcohol, and the kitchen is run by Sub Rosa, whose pizzas come out blistered from the oven. Inside, the arches are snug, with a long bar and stools; outside, picnic tables line the riverside path under the trees and the arches of the bridges, lit up at night. It is dog, student and child friendly, and hosts poetry nights, a weekly open mic, a Sunday quiz and live music. It opens at noon every day, until midnight, and eleven on Sunday.
