Introduction
A quaint village on the outskirts of Edinburgh, Balerno is a residential suburb of the capital that takes its name from the Gaelic, meaning ‘townland’. With the Water of Leith running through it, the village is overlooked by the nearby Pentland Hills and is the home to the sprawling Malleny Garden, cared for by the National Trust for Scotland.
