Welcome

In the middle of Balerno, the Mill Cafe is a friendly community cafe run by Balerno Parish Church in the St Joseph's Centre.

It is not for profit, and it is a welcoming place for anyone to stop for good coffee or tea and something to eat.

The counter is full of fresh baking, from scones to tray bakes, and there are teas, coffees and juices through the morning. At lunchtime the kitchen serves two soups, toasties and baked potatoes, simple, good food at fair prices.

The cafe opens from Tuesday to Friday, from nine until two, and on the second Saturday of each month, when Balerno's farmers' market is on. It closes for a fortnight at the start of July. It makes a good stop before or after a walk up to the Harlaw and Threipmuir reservoirs above the village.

Scotland, in print.

We want to show you the best that Scotland has to offer. The makers and the creatives, the enduring experiences, the evocative tales, the concealed corners. The roads less travelled that take you to places that matter. The adventures that gather you up and sweep you away. The blend of the wild and the artistic that makes Scotland what it is. We’d love for you to join us.
