A long-lost portrait of Robert Burns by the renowned Scottish artist Sir Henry Raeburn has been rediscovered more than 200 years after it vanished. The painting, commissioned in 1803 and found during a house clearance in Surrey, was authenticated by experts and has now been put on public display in Edinburgh ahead of Burns Night. The artwork, showing Scotland’s national poet, will later be exhibited at the Robert Burns Birthplace Museum in Alloway. The rediscovery of this rare portrait offers fresh insight into how Burns was seen by one of Scotland’s greatest portrait painters.
