More than a kilometre of path beneath Edinburgh Castle and nearby walkways are expected to reopen in 2026 after years of closure for safety reasons. The reopening will restore pedestrian access previously lost because of rockfall risk and will reconnect castle grounds to surrounding public routes. Work includes installation of safety barriers, path repairs and reopening a route known locally as Radical Road. The reopening aims to make the area safely accessible again for visitors and locals.
