St Cyrus National Nature Reserve

Introduction

Located midway between Aberdeen and Dundee on Scotland’s east coast, St Cyrus Beach forms part of the stunning St Cyrus National Nature Reserve. Backed by towering red granite cliffs, the glorious expanse of sand stretches along the coast for three miles to the mouth of the North Esk River, making it a popular spot for families. The beach is believed to be home to 70 different species of birds, with breeding birds and wild flowers best viewed in the spring and summer, and wading birds more common throughout winter. Out to sea, dolphins, whales and grey seals can also be spotted, making St Cyrus Beach a truly mesmeric part of the glorious Scottish coast. There are a number of trails beginning from here, including the Estuary trail and Tyrie trail. Toilets can be found next to this centre. There is also ample parking nearby. All in all, this is a wonderful spot to come for some quiet contemplation or a fun day out with the kids.
