Lilybank Bakehouse

A sourdough bakery on Montrose High Street, grown from a home micro-bakery, baking bread, buns and pastries with local organic flour.

Welcome

On Montrose High Street, behind a dark red shopfront, Lilybank Bakehouse sells the bread and pastries that Stuart King began baking in his own kitchen in 2023.

The micro-bakery grew fast, and in 2025 it became the first tenant of the High Street properties bought by ProMo, the community group working to bring life back to the town centre.

The bread is sourdough, with dark, blistered crusts, made with local organic flour. Beside the loaves are croissants and trays of buns heaped with fruit and icing, and coffee shops in Montrose serve them.

The bakery opens late in the week, from Thursday to Saturday, and the buns and loaves go quickly, so it pays to be early. With a loaf under one arm, the beach and the links are a short walk away.
