Papercup is a small, busy café on Great Western Road in the West End, behind a dark shopfront with a few tables on the pavement, and it roasts its own coffee.
It was opened by Graeme Crawford with one aim, to put a consistently great cup of coffee in front of every customer, and it has grown into a roaster with a roastery in an arch on Eastvale Place and cafés in Clarkston and Motherwell too.
The coffee is the draw. The beans change through the year, from a sweet Brazilian espresso to single origins from Colombia, Burundi, Peru and Ethiopia, each described by what it tastes like, and there is a coffee of the month for anyone curious. Bags are on the shelf to take home. The food is brunch done well: poached eggs on sourdough with avocado, hash browns and spinach, on a seasonal menu, with good pastries on the counter. It opens every day from nine, until four on weekdays and five at the weekend.
