Mootz General Store
A sandwich shop on Raeburn Place in Stockbridge, making big sandwiches on its own schiacciata bread, open every day.
Mootz General Store is a sandwich shop on Raeburn Place in Stockbridge, and a very good reason to arrive hungry.
The sandwiches are made on schiacciata, a crisp, flat Italian bread that the shop bakes itself, piled high on the counter and filled with the best meats and cheeses it can find. Choose from the board on the wall, with names like the Mootz, the Cubano, the Reuben and the Turkey Club, or ask about the day's specials, and remember you can add hot honey to anything for free. Each one comes in a regular size or a slightly smaller one, and the regular is generous enough to share. There are cookies on the counter too, and a few goods on the shelves. Take yours down to the Water of Leith, a few minutes' walk away, for a sandwich by the river. Mootz is open every day from 10.30am to 4.30pm.
