Welcome

Up a lane from the church at Kilmory, in the south of Arran, Dave Furze turns island trees into beautiful things.

Everything at Kilmory Workshop starts as timber grown on Arran, which is planked, seasoned and worked by hand right here, from tree to finished piece.

The showroom is packed with his work: turned bowls and vases, breadboards and rolling pins, lamp bases, mirrors, barometers and clocks, alongside wooden toys, oak house signs and furniture such as coffee tables, cabinets and chairs. He uses a wide range of woods, from ash, oak and elm to larch, laburnum and sweet chestnut, and each has its own colour and grain. The toys and the clocks make easy presents.

The workshop opens from Tuesday to Thursday, and on other days when the flag is flying and the sign is out by the church. The lane up is narrow and steep, so drive carefully, or ring ahead to check.
