Welcome

Herbie of Edinburgh is a small, long-running delicatessen on Raeburn Place, the main street of Stockbridge, and just the place to stock up for a picnic.

Step inside and the counter is laid out with cheeses, with hams hanging behind it, a chalkboard of the day's recommendations, and shelves of jars, oils and wine climbing the walls. Herbie is known for its artisan bread, and for good cheese, cured meats and wine to go with it. Put together lunch and carry it down to the Water of Leith, a few minutes' walk away, or pick up something special for supper. At Christmas the shop makes up gifts and hampers, and it sends fresh food out by post all year. It opens at 8.30am on weekdays and 9am on Saturdays, and closes at 6pm. Stockbridge's cafés, bakeries and little shops are all around it, so it's an easy one to fit into a morning.
