Saint Mungo, the patron saint of Glasgow, is said to have been born in Culross, the 17th-century village on the Firth of Forth in Fife.

Mungo, who is also known as Saint Kentigern, went on to found the city of Glasgow. Culross has another saint of its own too: Saint Serf travelled across Europe as a young man before he settled in the village. Today Culross is one of the starting points of the Fife Pilgrim Way, the pilgrims' route through Fife to St Andrews, and it sits on the Fife Coastal Path as well. Ten miles west of Dunfermline, it is often called Scotland's best-preserved 17th-century village, with cobbled causeways, houses painted in rich heritage colours, Culross Palace and Culross Abbey, so bring your walking boots.
