Villages
in Sutherland.
It’s 20:03 in Sutherland.
Sutherland
Dornoch stone and the Tongue causeway.
Villages in Sutherland are small and far apart, and each one is a welcome sight after miles of moor. Dornoch is a Royal Burgh of honey-coloured stone on the Dornoch Firth, with a 13th-century cathedral and long beaches. Lairg sits at the foot of Loch Shin, the crossroads of the far north. Tongue looks out over its Kyle and causeway, with Ben Loyal to the south. Inshegra is a tiny crofting township on Loch Inchard, and over the Caithness line, Latheronwheel has a little stone harbour in a cleft of the cliffs. Stock up in Dornoch or Lairg before heading north.
