Isle of Arran

Brodick sands and Corrie's white cottages.

Arran's villages sit along the one road that runs right round the island. At Brodick, the ferry comes in beside a wide sweep of golden sand, with Goat Fell rising above the far end and the Fisherman's Walk following the shore towards the castle woods. Five miles north, Corrie is a row of white cottages between the sea and the steep slopes, with a sandstone quay and a little harbour. The painter Joan Eardley drew the villagers and painted the shore here in the 1940s. Walk Brodick Bay in your first or last hour on the island, while you wait for the ferry.

You are up to date.

That is everything for today. Tomorrow's first posts go up in the morning. Or have the best of it in your inbox each morning in the Daily.
