Seaside towns and a Pentland village.

The towns and villages around Edinburgh each have a feel of their own. North Berwick is a seaside town with two sandy bays, a harbour, the Law rising behind it and the Bass Rock offshore. At Musselburgh, the old fishing harbour of Fisherrow dates from the 17th century and is full of yachts now, with beaches on either side. Balerno, on the south-west edge of the city, feels like a country village, with the Pentland Hills behind it and the Water of Leith Walkway starting here. The train to North Berwick makes an easy day without a car.
