Loch Lomond

From Luss pier to Loch Katrine.

The places to eat here sit by the water and along the walkers' routes. On Loch Katrine there are cafés at both ends, one by the steamship's berth at Trossachs Pier and one at Stronachlachar looking down the loch. Luss has a chip shop frying haddock in Loch Lomond beer batter, a coach house known for its soups and a whitewashed cottage serving from breakfast to dinner. At Balmaha the coffee is roasted on site, and at Inverarnan an old drovers' inn of 1705 keeps a stuffed grizzly bear in its hall. Opening times change with the seasons, so check before a special trip.

Tom Lewis, whose family owns Monachyle Mhor, the pink farmhouse hotel in Balquhidder, has a mantra: they don't own a table their guests can't dance on.

Monachyle Mhor helped to redefine Highland hospitality with its focus on quality food, design and service, and it is one of Scotland's pioneering boutique hotels. Guests come back for its legendary hospitality and laid-back attitude, and Tom sums it up in his own words. 'We don’t own a table our customers can’t dance on'. The picturesque pink farmhouse is joined by quirky places to stay, among them contemporary woodland cabins. Tom and Lisa May Lewis curate experiences too, including farm tours, wine safaris and apitherapy, a sustainable relaxation experience based around honeybees.
