Talla na Mara Community Café
The West Harris Trust's community café at Talla na Mara, with soup, sandwiches and baking, and a deck looking over the sea to Taransay.
Talla na Mara stands on a rise above the sea on the west coast of Harris, between the beaches of Seilebost and Horgabost, with Taransay across the water.
It's a community-owned arts and enterprise centre, opened in 2017 and run by the West Harris Trust, and its café is one of the most welcome stops on the road down the west side. Lunch is simple and homemade, soup and sandwiches with a special or two, and there's coffee, tea and home baking through the day, served by local staff and volunteers from the community. On a fine day take your tray out onto the deck, where the view runs out over the sand and turquoise water to the hills. The café is open from Monday to Friday, ten to four, with lunch from eleven to three, and you only need to book for six or more. Profits go back into the community's own plans, and the centre hires out a beach wheelchair for the sands nearby.

Open on weekdays, with lunch from 11am to 3pm.
Groups of six or more should book.
