Welcome

The Harris Hotel has stood in the middle of Tarbert since 1865, when the 7th Earl of Dunmore built it for anglers and called it the Tarbert Hotel.

William Cameron took the lease in 1903 and gave it its present name, and his family bought it outright in 1948. The hotel's own history tells how J. M. Barrie, the author of Peter Pan, signed the visitor book in 1912 and scratched his initials on a dining-room window, where they can still be seen. Today there are twenty-three en-suite rooms in four grades, with a drying room and somewhere to keep your bike, and the restaurant and bar are open to everyone every day, with dinner from five to nine, so book ahead for the evening. The residents' bar holds almost a hundred malts, and Tigh mo Sheanar, the public bar, welcomes dogs, though they can't stay in the rooms. Rooms are booked direct, by phone or email, and the hotel closes each winter from Christmas to early February.
