Scarista House
A Georgian manse of 1827 above Scarista beach on the west coast of Harris, now a small hotel of six rooms with a set dinner each evening.
Scarista House was built in 1827 as the parish manse, and it stands above the long beach at Scarista on the west coast of South Harris, looking out over the sands to the Atlantic.
There has been a tradition of hospitality here for a couple of hundred years, as the house puts it, and today it's a small hotel of six rooms: three in the house itself and three suites in Glebe House next door. There are two sitting rooms with open fires and a library, the kind of place to settle in with a book when the weather comes in off the sea. Dinner is the heart of a stay, a set menu that changes every day, of three or four courses, and it's open to non-residents too, along with breakfast and afternoon tea, as long as you book. Rooms are booked by phone or email. Dogs can come by arrangement, staying in the bedrooms and the library, and children are welcome in the Glebe House suites, with an early supper of their own.

Rooms, dinner, breakfast and afternoon tea are all booked ahead, by phone or email.
