A family home fragrance company in Tarbert, hand-pouring soy candles, diffusers and bath products on Harris, with its flagship shop and workshop by the pier.

Essence of Harris began on the island and still makes everything there.
Its flagship shop sits on Pier Road in Tarbert, beside the workshop where the candles are poured by hand.
The range runs to soy wax candles and wax melts, reed diffusers and room sprays, and a bath and body collection, all vegan-friendly and made with natural soy wax and plant-based fragrance oils. The shop is bright and calm, with candles in frosted glass jars, skincare arranged by colour and a copper-piped refill station where you can top up bottles of hand and body wash rather than buy new ones. It has also run candle-making workshops, a good plan for a wet afternoon.
The shop opens from Monday to Saturday. There is a second shop in Glasgow for anyone who wants to find the scents again at home.
