Outer Hebrides

Island kitchens from Lewis to South Uist.

Eating out in the Outer Hebrides is small, friendly and worth planning a day around. In the middle of Lewis, a bright blue shipping container by the road at Achmore turns out wood-fired Neapolitan pizza. In Tarbert on Harris, a small restaurant seats every guest in the kitchen itself for a long tasting menu of island produce. At the south end of South Uist, a café run by islanders looks over the Sound of Barra, a good stop on the Hebridean Way. Distances are long and some places open only a few days a week, so check ahead and book dinner early.
