Kilbride Cafe, South Uist
A cafe run by islanders at the south end of South Uist, beside the Kilbride campsite and looking over the Sound of Barra, handy for the Hebridean Way.
At the southern tip of South Uist, a white building with its name painted on the gable is the Kilbride Cafe.
It is owned and run by islanders, and it looks out across the Sound of Barra towards Barra and Eriskay.
The cafe sits beside the Kilbride campsite, and it is a natural stop for anyone walking or cycling the Hebridean Way, the long-distance route that runs up the islands from Vatersay to Lewis. Come for breakfast before the road north, or a toastie and a cup of tea at lunchtime, with the sea and the islands spread out beyond the window.
The cafe opens from ten until three. It is only a short way from the causeway to Eriskay and the ferry to Barra.
