Welcome

Isle of Barra Distillers is Scotland's most westerly distillery, and everything it makes is distilled and bottled on the island.

Its best-known spirit is Isle of Barra Gin, flavoured with carrageen, a seaweed foraged by hand from the island's shores.

The bottles are as distinctive as the gin, each one marbled by hand in patterns inspired by the moss and seaweed of the coast. Alongside the gin, the family business now makes Island Dark rum, a Hebridean vodka and a whisky called Tales of the Tides, and it has won a string of gold medals and awards. It hopes one day to open the island's first whisky distillery.

The shop in Castlebay opens from Monday to Saturday, and it is the place to taste the range and take a bottle home.
