Welcome

The Barra Heritage and Cultural Centre, known in Gaelic as Dualchas, sits in Castlebay looking out over the bay to Kisimul Castle.

It tells the story of Barra and Vatersay through the people who live there.

The displays cover island life across the years, with a reconstructed sitting room from an island home and recordings of islanders sharing their memories of how things used to be. The staff are local and full of stories. The tearoom serves homemade soup, fresh scones and baking, with tea and coffee.

The centre opens from Monday to Friday, ten until four. Entry is £5 for adults and free for children.
