Lychee Oriental serves Chinese, Thai and Japanese cooking in a refurbished listed building on Mitchell Street, a short walk from Buchanan Street, and it is led by the award-winning chef Jimmy Lee.

In its first years it was named one of the top 25 Chinese restaurants in the UK by the Sunday Times, in 2018, and Glasgow's best Chinese restaurant a year later.

The kitchen makes all its stocks and sauces from scratch, and buys its meat, vegetables and seafood fresh and local. The menu is long and full of house specialities: dim sum and spring rolls, crispy duck, salt and chilli dishes, chicken satay with peanut sauce, noodles and sizzling platters to share, with an unusually good gluten-free menu. The room is dark and glamorous, with booths, a lit logo on the wall and a well-stocked bar for cocktails. There is also a takeaway, and a second Lychee on the south side. It opens every day from noon until nine.
