Gamba has been cooking seafood in a basement on West George Street since 1998, and it is still one of the places Glaswegians go for a special dinner.

Down the steps from the street, the room is warm and cosy, with tables close together, and the menu is built on Scotland's larder, with fish sourced sustainably and locally.

The fish soup is the dish it is famous for. After that, there are oysters with lime, sashimi, seared scallops, fillets of sea bass with shellfish, and a surf and turf menu on Wednesdays, with a wine list to match. There are good-value menus at lunch and before the theatre, and on selected Thursdays live jazz and soul play through dinner. Gamba opens for lunch and dinner from Wednesday to Friday, all day on Saturday, and is closed Sunday to Tuesday.

Gamba serves lunch from noon to 3pm and dinner from 5pm to 9pm, Wednesday to Friday, and from noon to 9pm on Saturday.

It is closed Sunday to Tuesday.
