Welcome

Down on the Rhins of Galloway, Knockinaam Lodge sits above its own private cove, looking out across the Irish Sea.

This 19th-century country house, three miles from Portpatrick, is a restaurant with rooms, and its dining room holds three AA Rosettes. Dinner is a seven-course set menu that changes every day, built on seasonal produce from Dumfries and Galloway and the rest of Scotland, and it's served every evening. There's lunch on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, and afternoon tea on Friday and Saturday. The wine list has won the AA's Wine Award for Scotland, and there are open fires in the bar and the dining room. The house has a story to tell, too: Winston Churchill and Dwight D. Eisenhower met here while preparing for the D-Day landings. You don't need to stay the night to eat here, so book a table and leave time for a walk down to the beach.
